HEHE Bean is a funny dude.
I figured by my "fuzzy math" what my speed could be in my SC.
Around 180 @ 6,000 rpm. and 6,000 rpm ain't nuthen.
I do have the v160 6 speed and 3.76 supra tt lsd rear. At around 90mph @ 3000 rpm.
Can run around 430 at the wheels but been havin some knock issues. I'm going to Methane injection soon and should be putten down 550 or so .

So I could get to the 200 mark.

but
1) I dont need to go 200 mph on the ground. I like my life
2) I would need better tires hahahahhaaa!

Or in 75% in California. LOL

The biggest question is not why or how safe do you want to get up that speed, but how fast?(quick to reach the speed) LOL

Hmmmm, Most super cars are not that heavy??? Here are a couple that definitely weigh in as not light weight:
  • McLaren Mercedes Benz SLR: 3898 lbs.
  • Lamborghini Murcielago: 3671 lbs.
  • Lamborghini Gallardo: 3550 lbs.
  • Bugatti Veyron: 4162 lbs.
  • Nissan GTR: 3836 lbs.
  • Audi R8: 3450 lbs
A few examples of some very fast super cars that weigh in quite heavy...

On a side note, it takes a lot of money to build a quality car that will hit and surpass the 200 mile mark. It is all about power to weight ratio...So, the heavier the car, the more the power necessary to get there...But there is a drawback...the lighter the car, the less stable at high speeds..., aerodynamics are also critical. Ever notice how many super cars add a lower lip splitter to the front ends of their cars to keep them planted to the ground, along with a venturi type rear?

I will say that I do not believe you can get a SWC to 200 mph on a a $7k budget, or even on double or triple that. It will take a lot of cash to build it or any car that can get that speed and maintain it for any duration at all...

Tommy did 228 in 5th gear which happens to be the 1:1 gear on the supra, and making about 1000-1100who. I might be attempting the TX mile later this year if work permits using a 6spd rear in the TH400 that also has a 1:1 third gear. my goal will be 190ish, i have been @ over 160 in my car in a little over 1/4 mile on its current form. Unfortunally there is too much of lack of support so its extremely hard to attempt this type of feat on ones own budget and time when you live as far from TX as i do. But I will try my best as I've always been very proud of my car's ability to put power to the ground at low speeds in regular street concrete/asphalt, and how it accelerates in top end, even with the current JDM cams.

SC Coeficient of drag is actually 1point better than the supra, and mine weighs same as most supras. With proper suspension and tires this should be a lot of fun, and not a far fetched goal. I hope i can do it before another th400 car gets out there.

I was just at the Tampa BBQ, I will be putting the cams on the car soon and then i will be out again. Right now i have a few things to adress on it mostly related to the cams, and the oil return gasket from the turbo that is leaking a bit from lack of use.

That's what I like to hear. 9.70's on the tiny JDM cams is just insane! Keep on inspiring brother.

Really? I can post a parts list Its not nearly as much as you think it is either. A stock ECU GE could do it. What do you think it takes to maintain that speed? Good wheels, good tires, and good suspension right? I'm wondering where the extra $14k comes from your triple estimate. There have been plenty of MKIV TTs doing it on stock turbos, I dont see what the big deal is here.

I'd say I'll take a video of my car doing 200mph when I get to that point; but its going to be a bit, I wont have the driveline to do it until the end of the year and thats assuming the R154 gearing will get it there on a 3.76 rear-gear.

How about W58 gearing on a 3.76 rear end?

WOW this thread has Bean, and then "Internet Experts".
An SC400 has done 198MPH in the 1/4 and did it in like 2002 I think.
Also the first import to do 200MPH in the 1/4 was powered by a Toyota V8, not a 2JZ.
Now if the 1UZ can push these cars to 200 in the 1/4 doing it top speed shouldn't be a gabillion dollor investment based on your cage, and Integra race car builders.

I agree with Bean you need the correct gearing, enough power, and a drivetrain to handle it.
Yes suspension, and a saftey devices are a good idea, but I'm sure you understood that when you asked the question.
