Big deal its oil! Remove the bolts under there that are 10mm. Use 14mm wrench to take off the drain plug saying if it hasn't been replaced. Then get oil pliers or use your Van Damn muscles and turn the oil filter off. Use a pan or whatever to get the oil. Use brake cleaner for you nubs out there that make a mess on the undercarriage. It is actually 5.6 quarts of oil for the SC400 not 5.1 wrong! Synthetic is man made oil that is jacked up in price. Its supposedly lets you get more mileage up to 15,000 with mobile 1. Stop being cheap and use regular 5w-30 oil every 3,000 or 3 months. Your just asking for sludge to build up 15,000 miles haha. Try changing oil on a LS460 and you will think the SC400 was a cake walk.lol

Well this is my personal experience with Mobil 1, take it for what you want. I had a 97 Eclipse RS (yes I know a crappy Chrysler motor, not a nicer built Toyota motor) and I drove it about 100 miles a day for work. I started putting Mobil 1 in it, back in 02 or 03 I think it was, way back before Mobil 1 changed their formulation and it still was 100% man made. I about blew an engine in the car because being around 120k, full synthetic was a bad idea for my case. It found a weak area in the oil pan gasket and about cost me a motor. Which I guess didn't really matter since the timing belt went out a few weeks later lol
Mobil 1 has worked perfect for some guys going from regular to synthetic, even with more miles, but in my case, not such a good idea. Now I stick to straight ol' Valvoline. Going to be putting some 5w30 Valvoline in my new SC400 here soon with a Purolator Pur One filter more than likely.

I've never had any problem awitching from conventional to synthetic. Maybe in turbo applications it may be different. I've always headr that turbo m,odels are best used with mineral oils or turbo specific oil. But in any NA application i've ever had switching wasn't a problem. If it really worries you just add some motor flush before you change the oil.

I have a 1993 Lexus SC400- Went to a local Bridge Auto Parts store here in my area, picked up 6 quarts of NAPA Synthetic Oil and a NAPA filter for around $24 (a buddy works there). Questioned the NAPA brand but apparently it had good reviews as they are backed by Valvoline.
Drove my car onto plastic ramps at home and clearance did not seem to be an issue. The oil pan bolt was very small, something like 14mm if I recall. And the filter was not fun to access, not bad but not fun, just make sure you get the right oil filter plier/adapter size (..dunno the previous one cuz' I used a huge plumber's wrench). Tada.
Oh and a note from switching to conventional from synthetic, apparently you are supposed to pour a quart of conventional and let it drain through the oil pan, then remove the old oil filter and collect the remaining "mix." From conventional to synthetic, well you got me. I guess since it's a sports car, you should treat it like a sports car.
