help pls. is300 flywheel same as sc300?
ok im doing a auto to manual swap on my 1jz 92 sc300. my friend gave me a unorthodox is300 flywheel and unorthodox clutch and pressure plate. ive looked online and some have said the factory flywheels between a sc300 and an is300 are the same. but aftermarket companies have different part numbers.
will the clutch and flywheel work? im using a w55 trans out of an 2002 is300.
i was told it was but i need to make sure...
any help would be great! thanks,
elton

FYI, for manual cars the 1992-1997 SC300 5-speed's W58 transmission came from the factory with a single mass steel flywheel. The 2002-2005 IS300 5-speed's W55 transmission came from the factory with a dual mass flywheel (an LuK supplied flywheel I think).
I am less familiar with how people use aftermarket clutches with the much weaker W55 transmission but generally aftermarket flywheels tend to be single mass type. With a V160 transmission a single mass aftermarket flywheel doesn't have the extra vibration dampening characteristics that the stock V160 flywheel has which can result in some audible clatter noise but no issues.
I am not sure if the same is true of the W55 transmission when paired with a single mass flywheel but that shouldn't be the case.
Nonetheless swapping the relatively weak W55 transmission into your SC300, though it can fit, isn't recommended. A W58, even if not ideal for boost applications, is notably stronger and more durable handling the weight of the SC's body.

This thread was originally made in 2008-- quite old.

I have an IS300 and already have a sprung clutch for a single mass flywhweel. Im just wondering if it fits bc an SC300 flywheel is $100 vs a $500 aftermarket low weight IS300 flywheel that is more likely to chatter. I see a lot of posts about people attempting the SC300 flywheel install but never what they needed to make it fit and if it is a good fit. Just curious

Here's a quote from the item page for Driftmotion's own lightweight flywheel for the IS300's W55 5-speed manual transmission (Driftmotion P/N FW-607-3AL, $450):
"Driftmotion W55 IS300 Lightweight Flywheel for JZ engines. This is a lightweight aluminum flywheel for JZ engines using a W55 transmission from an IS300. This flywheel is ONLY for a W55 that came in the IS300, NOT for a W58."
For what it's worth, the factory/OEM Toyota W58 steel flywheel (Toyota P/N 13405-46040) is $542 MSRP brand new, not $100. (MyLParts sells it new for $404.00 however).
