Default Exhaust Tick???

Hello,

I am new to the forum, I purchased a 1992 Sc400 from a family friend with 102K on the clock, timing belt and water pump were just completed, and I have done a full tune up on the vehicle. When it warms up the exhaust has a ticking or tinging noise that drives me insane, I can here it cooling down when I turn the car off, it continues to make this noise for a few mins and then it goes away my technician said it is common on older Japanese cars how can I stop this problem HELP!!!

It's just the exhaust getting hot and cooling. It's not just Japanese cars, all cars do this.

Thats completely normal, and the only way you can truely stop it is by removing the catalytic converters.

I have no cats on mine, and it still does it.

Well then I'm stumped I was under the impression that the ceramic in the cats cools and makes that crackly sound. O wells.

I'm sure it does, but so do all the heat shields and piping as in contracts and expands.

Most cars do this unless you delete the whole exhaust system
