Default A/C Issues

I need to charge my AC. I recently replaced the motor and the A/C system was opened up. Due to not having freon in the system the compressor will not engage. Does anybody know if I connect freon to the low side will the compressor activate. Any advice would be appreciated.

What year/model SC do you have? "94 and before are usually R-12 while the others are R-134a. If your "opened" system has been sealed it needs to be evacuated and recharged with the appropriate refrigerant. Do not try to use the A/C without the proper amount of oil in the system.
