Default 1jz or 2jz I need your vote.

Ok heres the deal guys and girls. I have a 93 sc300 5 speed. I have two choices, 1 - a 1jz with 5 speed that came out of a soarer for $2600 shipped, or 2 - a 2jz with auto out of a Aristo for $2000 shipped. The 1jz i can get the next day and the 2jz will take about 3 weeks to come in. I can get the 1jz and get a stronger tranny or get the 2jz and hope the w58 holds up awhile. Witch one would yall choose?

I'd go with the 2jz. I'm gonna use the w58 in my car for now.

I agree, i have a motto of go big or go home. Also do it right the first time, you'll probably end up regretting not getting the 2j later on. so 2jz it is....just remember 1j=bullet proof 2j=bulletproofer

and it also depends on your power goals and budget. both motor can handle in excess of 800hp with fuel, turbo and tuning...so its like choose your poison.

I'm running a V161 now, but I ran my W58 with 540whp for like 6 months and it was fine. In fact, it never broke. I pulled it out the car in running condition. It's all in how you drive, so I would go with the 2J and W58, then save for an upgrade.

I was thinking doing a 1.5jz, but the way the polls are going I will most likely buy the 2jz tomorrow. Keep the poll coming though.

Getrag swaps are expensive, and mine was no exception. In fact, it was probably more than what most people spend. Here's the breakdown...

V161, 6spd pumpkin, 6spd axles - $4800
Carbonetic Triple disc - $2500
Custom Driveshaft and Getrag Gear Oil - $500

Of course there was shipping, and random misc things that came up here and there, like a shifter, nuts/bolts, etc, so when it was all said and done, it was like $8500 give or take. Not a cheap swap, but worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Are you doing the swap yourself? With as easy as the 1JZ is to do, its worth considering if you are. You could have it done over a weekend.

Yea im going to be doing it myself. That one of the reason I wanted the 1jz because it is almost a direct swap. But for the money im saving I can send the 2jz wiring out and still be under the cost of 1jz. Just wont get the tranny.

if you have a 5speed in your sc now why not go n/a-t. in the end you will have more power for your cost.
i did 1jz-gte swap. i bought a soarer clip. i wish i would have went n/a t, i would have had 100-200hp more for the same money. but i also went from auto to 5speedr154. and about it taking a weekend thats bull**** you will run into unexpected bumps..

2JZ You will not regret it. Its better to spend the money the first time then have to buy it twice.

In all honesty, if you havent done enough research to figure out what you want, you might want to put off getting either of them. Not trying to be Captain D-bag or anything, but 1j or 2j can be a hard decision on what you are going to use the car for. I would say do more research before you buy either. Just my $.02
