Lets talk about trannys! Wooooo.
Ok, there is much discussion on Soarer r154 tranny swaps but they are hard to come by and expensive. Many take the alternative to get a MK3 Supra r154 then get a soarer bell housing, mk3 front section of the driveshaft, etc.
There has been numerous swaps and there was always an discussion of shifter extension. Ok now take these facts into consideration.
92-94 SC300s
-Have the internal shifter like the MK3's w58
95-97 SC300s
-Have the tripod setup like the MK4's w58
Now I just installed newer w58 (since mine is a 92) and it had the shifter tripod setup and it was too long and I had to modify my trans tunnel for it to fit. Now that got me thinking. Maybe, 92-94 SC's don't need the extension for a Mk3 r154 and might be just a perfect fit.

Off topic, I blew my trans (no 3rd or 4th) and got another one and installed it and it was blown as well (no 2nd or 5th) LOL. Just my luck but at least it got me thinking about this.

i have a 92 sc300 manual, i used its 92' w58 shifter in my mk3 r154.. it fit in the tunnel fine.. but it still hit the console when shifting. took it to fab shop and had it cut/welded 1" back, everything good to go.

The early version tunnel has a hole cutout that is farther forward since the shifter dog legs in at an angle.
The newer version tunnel has a hole cutout that is farther backward since the shifter comes straight up through the middle of the shift boot.
Neither transmission tunnel will suit a MK3 R154 without modification. You shifter will want to come through the ash tray.
If you use the shifter from the early version W58 with the MK3 R154, you will clear the interior by only needed to trim the metal cross bar in front of the ash tray. Once the shift boot is in, everything will look "normal" except that your shifter is more forward from center.
If you extend the shifter from the MK3, then you can fit it into either tunnel rather nicely. An extension for the early version trans tunnel would require that the dogleg shifter be retained, whereas an extension for the late version trans tunnel would require than the shifter be replaced vertically.
To boot, the early version trans tunnel is more well suited for the early version Soarer R154, since they both utilized the bent shifter rod that comes in at an angle. The late version tran tunnel is more well suited for the late version Soarer R154 (or a V160), since they utlized the straight shifter that comes directly throught he center of the shift boot.
In my opinion, a MK3 R154 with an early version W58 shift rod is the EASIEST way to get the R154 into your car. Sure, the shifter will be forward of center in the shift boot; but, you will have a transmission that can hold 700wtq: who cares? The shifter would be only fractions of an inch more forward than as if you had installed a MK3 short shifter on your early version w58.

Hey Pavel, I still got the C's shifter. Its not screwed up, I just got screwed out of the deal by your buddy lol. I know you want it lol. You just gotta make the spacer thing that its missing and you are all good.
Possibly in the future if I blow up another w58 lol. I'm trying to get another trans (w58) from the guy in NC right now.

As for the shifter, I am sure you could find one in the classifieds or from a yard relatively easily and for not a lot of dough. In the meantime, you have another W58 to beat on: good luck!

So, what I understand is all the US MK3 R154s/shift rods are the same but the best way to install in an early SC is to use an early w58 shift rod, correct? The hole for the shifter still has to be trimmed?
