SC570? Is it possible or even practical?

Default SC570? Is it possible or even practical?

Just a couple days ago, I've found an 07' Tundra's engine and tranny come up for sale. It's the 5.7L 3UR-FE, along with the engine's 6 speed auto tranny. I've been attracted to this engine for its massive low end torque of 401 ft-lbs at just 3600 rpm. How feesible is it to swap this engine into an SC400? How much would the swap cost and how much time?

There is a guy in Orlando who does that now.

Its pretty much a fab mounts and I'd bet the front of the engine gets right into the hood.

theres a member with a sc470 i believe.
so why not try to tackle a SC570 iforce?? :]

That's not even funny actually. The power of the 5.7 iforce is what most people aim for when going FI with the 2J or 1UZ/2UZ. That torque is ridiculous.

ya i drove a new tundra and u have to massage the pedal when u drive it.
but if ur building a dragster why not a 5.7? and it seems like Brendon is thinking about it. if brendon is getting the motor then hey i guess hes gonna have as much power as other ppl aim for with a different engine.
its just another route for the SC.

I know that people have switched out there 4.0 to the Tundra's 4.7. Now the 5.7 is in its first year and I don't know if anyone has succeeded yet but I'm sure someone is already trying. It is possible, the engine bayshould be large enough, but it would take alot of modification.

I don't know does this make sense but you really need to upgrade your suspension to handle that stress from that amount of torque (401ft-lbs). just my 2cents.

Do people have to do suspension mods when they turbo or s/c? i assume the engine would be relatively smooth given that its a toyota engine, and it shouldnt weigh much more since its an aluminum block. What else would need to be beefed up? the driveshaft?

this makes sense if you prefer not to go the FI route (like me) and i think i could get this engine/tranny for cheap. Its being auctioned on ebay for just $2000 starting and no one has bid it up yet (its been listed for a few days now). thats uber cheaper than spending say $5000 for a 3uzfe.

That sounds like an amazing idea. I am sure it can be done seeing how theres already a SC470 and another Supra with the 4.7 TT... 5.7 would be insane, I'd lov eto see that for myself.

As an afterthought, you could add the TRD supercharger for another 100 horses.

5.7 will be really nice but the prices for them still very high. Last time I check it is about $15,000 for the motor alone. So with tran and other misc parts will run around $20,000. Unless you got luck with a roll over truck, but junk yard still asking high prices for them. I would think around $10,000 to $12,000 for the whole drive train. Also gotta add at least $2,000 to $4,000 for labor and custom fabrication. The last issue would be interior electricals. Good luck on that one. You will save some money if you can do it yourself. Why not put in a high compression 5.2L stroker shortblock? Similar power and alot less problems and money. Cheaper parts for replacement too and everything will fit under hood.

So to answer your questions:
Is it possible?: Yes if you have the money.
Is it practical?: No because there are other ways to gain similar power without problems, headaches, money and the unknown.

Well its already down to just 4 days left and still no bids on it. $2000 for the engine and tranny and the guy wasnt smart enough to put minimum sale price protection. what electrical issues might I face?

I honestly agree with Lextreme. The coolest cars are those that no one else makes, the stuff that no one else does.

I think its a great idea if you have the cash and time to actually finish the build. Starting and stopping because of lack of funds or time is a horrible waste of resources. Just be smart and ethical with your procedures and it may turn out insane!
