Here is a guy who says he used an 11.2 ohm resistor to get rid of the cel on an obd2 car which is interesting

I just did this to my 97 sc400 and although I have not taken it for a drive yet I am getting a hard code P1765 TOYOTA - Linear Shift Solenoid Circuit Fault
So I will see how it behaves shortly.

Ok it does seem to have better low end but I have 275's out back and they would not turn over before now if I get on the converter from a dig she will roast them most of the way through 1st gear and although I did not notice hard down shifts it does seem more alive I guess you could say, I was down there doing some work and I figured why not? Now I will put it on a switch before putting it back together.

You'll notice that any WOT that results in a downshift to first will be a lot more "productive" than before. I think even a downshift from 60 mph to pass somebody is night and day difference.

durps - I planned to use the wire for the ECT Power dash light to trigger a relay but I decided why bother. I just left the wire cut permanently. On my OBD1 car it doesn't cause any CELs and I see no reason to ever want it back the old way.

Well my car has always shifted firm for some odd reason so that maybe why I did not notice any real difference when shifting but sitting on the converter from a dig gets the car out of the hole much quicker than before so it behaves like a v-8 should down low but falls on it's face up top lol

Has anyone done any tests on this when you give the ECU signal a 5V constant instead of cutting it?
It's my understanding that the ECU progressively raises voltage from 0-5V to enable the smooth increase in line pressure. Does having it cut automatically default the signal for line pressure to be Full line pressure? It would be interesting if someone could test this and measure the line pressure changes when gives it varying voltages between 0 and 5v.

The solenoid is a bleed, meaning that when it isn't energized the trans pressure is normal. Most other models of the same trans don't even have the solenoid present. With the mod the pressure isn't ever really "raised" -- it just isn't "lowered".
Triggering the solenoid lowers line pressure and causes slip, and makes a nice comfy gear change at the expense of clutch packs and overall power delivery.
