I posted to this tread to revive it, because its very similar to prob. Im having with my trans. Just got it out of the shop and all the sudden its dropping into drive hard, and has firmer shifts. I do like the firmer upshifts but not the jolt into drive. The trick of unplugging the 4th sol. is in question. I have gotten under the car and seen the black plug in that is where the trans body bolts to the bell housing. The plug goes into a black plastic part held down by a 10mm head screw, and there is a green and pink wire in the plug wiring. Im wondering if the 4th one is farther up towards the engine, because the one with 2 wires is plugged in.

Ive backed it off to where it has free play and tried TPS going CCW no change. Since the shop had my engine and tranny out, they might have my detent cable pinched. Hard area to work on. When the poster of this thread says the solenoid is behind the bell housing bolts, I want to be sure its behind the bellhousing to trans. bolts and not the engine to bell housing bolts, and that theres 2 wires in the plug.

i pulled the speed sensor which has a pink wire ans a green wire with blk stipe. i was testing the ohms cuz i have o/d light blinking and get a code 37 or 38 (it seemed to change from 37 to 38 than back to 37). i have a 93 sc400 with no mods. it has ob1 and i use the paper clip on e1 and t1 to read the codes. the speed sensor IS on the bell housing on the drivers side just above the tube to the A/T for fluid and stick and is held in place with one 10mm bolt. if you check rock auto for lexus speed sensor you will see what it looks like. the sensor read 580 ohms so this is in range according to one of the pdf on this thread.so i'm still trying to get rid of the blinking o/d light. my car runs fine and will bolt when i put the pedal to the metal.

Thanks sheila, Ive looked at the plug on that solenoid and it has a red boot that goes over the plug, and its plugged in good. I am still having hard shift into drive and reverse, that the car didnt have before it went into the shop 2 weeks ago.

So I still have hard shift into drive and hard downshifts. Yes I think the car shifts firmer up through the gears, but clunking downshift into first is bad. I have been talking about a small 2 wire solenoid on the drivers side of my auto. trans. close to the block. The part is held onto the side of the trans. by one 10mm. bolt, then has a 2 wire plug. This is what Iv been considering #4 sol. that controls line pressure. My prob. was that after having the engine and trans. pulled, that plug in would not latch and lock onto the part. After pulling the part and plug from a car at the junkyard, Im not sure it is a solenoid. It looks like a cam sensor, 1'' long bakelite with a small metal center at the tip.

So I got a used front sol. with a tight plug and spliced it on, which also meant removing the attaching bolt and installing the new plug/ sol. Did test drive, dont think it has fixed the prob.

So the part ive been working on is def. the one pictured in post 71 of this thread. Mines plugged in good now, still shifting like its unplugged. Have my detent cable loosely adj. and TPS slightly turned slightly ccw. Still goes into drive hard and has clunking downshift into 1st. Any help appeciated.

So Im bringing this thread back, after checking all elect. connections, trans. detent cable, i can not find the source of my car has been banging into drive. Its worse when its cold and worse downshift clunk into 1st. when cold. Im taking the lead of OLT and his info. on TPS affecting shifting. I tried everything else and come back to this. Car runs great otherwise with no hesitations so i didnt want to spend the $130.00 to try it but have just put the order in.
