check fluid levels in the radiator(only when cold). easy way to check if its safe to open you radiator cap is to pinch that black hose on the top of the radiator. if the hose is cool and doesnt have pressure (you can pinch) its safe to open.anyways if the radiator isnt full of water then fill it up. then take the car for a 10 min or until your car reaches normal running temp( about the middle of the gauge). then you have to turn the car off and let it sit until cool again. after engine has cooled check the water level again in the radiator. if the water is gone you have to find out where its going. first place to check would be the overflow tank(white plastic tank). if that tank keeps filling and filling as you add water, most likely you need a new radiator cap.. if your overflow tank is empty the check if the hoses are connected properly. if everything checks out then you might have cracks like the previous reply.

cooling system..... main components to effect the car heating water pump, thermostat, radiator, fan clutch... if theres a problem wrong with those that would cause the car to overheat the only other thing if those systems in the car was working properly would be if it was leaking somewhere ex. heater core. pin hole in the water lines , head gasket etc...
