Hey guys Iam thinking of buyingthis 95 SC400 125K on the odometer, I have previousely only owned Rx7's, so I have no experiences with pistons, I am pretty mechanically inclined, changed out engines in 89, and 93 Rx7's
How difficult is it to change the waterpump and the Timining belt and whatever else that may be needing to change under the front housing? is there a website with how to's?,
By the way the engine temp needle is at about 1/2 after a 25 minute drive with with the A/C on full blast, outside temp about 60 degrees, should I be concerned about cooling efficiencies?
Thanks
DN

buy a repair manual before atempting the timing belt change. From what you describe about yourself, changing 89 & 93 engine, timing belt is not that difficult.
You'll need pulley holder to loosen the pulley. I assume you have tools already
How else would you takethe 89 & 93 engines out.
Shop around for best price on the repair manual. For my 93 SC400 I paid ~$125 for two volumes of repair manual and one electrical manual.
Call 800-908-6968 ask for Steve Ganz or Gordon for Lexus part and repair manual price. Ther is another site that sell SC parts, I think it's SC400.com not sure, check other posts to see the correct site name.

Temp. gauge at half ~9 o'clock is about right.
For timing belt change. Buy belt, water pump, 2 idlers, cam seals, thermostat & gasket, new gasket for the filler (have to fill the coolant at this small hole and top off at the reservoir), 2 gallons of Toyota antifreeze or the red color after market antifreeze, a few gallons of distilled water, caps, rotors, sparkplug wires and sparkplugs before hand. Aslo, a few qts of dexron trans fluid to replace the P/S fluid and the fan clutch fluid. The oil filter had to be off to change the timing belt on the SC400, so why not change the oil after you finish with the belt.
The repair manual also show how to adjust the valves. I am not going there
For SC400 trans. fluid. Only use Toyota Type T-IV fluid, not Dexron trans. fluid or any other type.
