question about r154 swap
I have been researching this swap for the past two days now. I am trying to find the cheapest way to get this transmission in my car. this is my shopping list so far.
1. mk3 turbo transmission (maybe rebuilt or junkyard. not sure how comfortable i am with junkyard parts.)
2. 1jz bell housing (do i need this if i get it off the mk3 supra?) isn't the mk3 a 1jzgte? so it has the 1jz bell housing right?
3. master/slave cylinder (will the mk3 supra fit on my car? or do i need to get 5sp sc300 parts?)
4. pedal assembly. (will the mk3 supra fit on my car? or do i need to get 5sp sc300 parts?)
5. shift linkage (the mk3 should work fine right?)
6. driveshaft (i think i need to get the manual sc driveshaft?)
7. act clutch/pp and bearing (brand new)
8.primary and secondary lines (junkyard)
so I guess i have a couple questions I marked all my questions in red
thanks in advance. I know there has to be a number of people that have done this swap. from what I understand the w58 swap would be a waste of time in the future. Oh by the way I am putting this on a 2jz-ge. i will in the future get a 2jzgte but one step at a time.

1. it depends on the condition of the car. can be a good deal...can also be bad
2. in US mk3 came with 7mget only. you need 1jz bellhousing...unless you get a jdm r154 from a 1jzgte
3.goes with 4
4. its easiest to install sc padal box. mk3 supra can be done with modifications. if you use SC pedal then need SC clutch master cylinder. same for mk3 pedal
5. mk3 shifter sits too far forward and will hit the radio if it fits. modify shifter.
6. w58 driveshaft wont work.
need to do more searching. members blizzy and 2jzlex as well as scotturnot have done a lot of research and writeups on the topic. search their threads.

If i'm not wrong mk3 doesn't comes with r154. mk3 2jzge comes with w58 and turbo mk3 comes with v160. mk2 comes with r154.
2. mk3 doesn't come with 1jzgte, either 2jzge or 2jzgte. Soarer comes with 1jzgte.
You will also need to extend shifter to fit your sc.
There is somewhere whole thread about this swap.

From what I know...
US MKIII turbo (7M-GTE) has an R154
US MKIII non turbo (7M-GE)has a W58
JDM MKIII turbo (1JZ-GTE) also had a R154 but different bellhousing
US MK IV non turbo (2JZ-GE) came with a W58
US MK IV turbo (2JZ-GTE) came with a V160
Soarers (1JZ-GTE) has R154
SC300 (2JZGE) has W58
I think you're off by one generation there buddy

add 1 to your mks and you've got it right. Change mk2 to mk3 and mk 3 to mk4 and you've got it all right
Mk. 4 is the newest, 2jzge and gte, W58 and V160
Mk. 3 was the last gen to have pop up headlights. R154 with a 7M GTE in N. America, 7M GE with a W. JDM had a 1jz with an R154
and yes you're right, the gearshift does need to be extended

i have been thinking a lot about this. correct me if I am wrong, but I think my best bet is to get a JDM soarer r154. because it will come with the 1jz bellhousing and I wont have to do any shifter fab/modification.

Mk3 R154 = $250-$700 (seen one as high as 1k but it was rebuilt and "beefed up" for racing.
Rebuild (depending on where and how you get it)
1jz bell housing= $200-$350
shifter = Free (mod it)- $300
So if you are handy and get a great deal on parts you walk away paying $450. (no clutch)
If you end up getting it for $450 maybe a rebuild might be needed, bumping up the final price. (can be said for the soarer r154 as well)
and don't forget you will need a 1jz flywheel for your 2jz if you are going to put on the r154, and a clutch kit.

I came up with a better idea. I am just going to get the soarer front clip with a r154. its win win. I was going to eventually put a 2j in my car but I am going to be moderate on the hp (300-350 whp) so i think a 1j will suit me fine for the next couple years. plus it has all the parts i need for the conversion. I found a clip for 2500 including shipping. I got a loan from my bank (refinanced the sc). and buck buck pulled the trigger.

^if it doesn't come with the driveshaft, you'll need one
and some pedals
SC300 clutch pedal assembly is ideal, but there's thread about adapting a MK3 assembly if you look around a bit. Might be easier and cheaper.

I don't know this for sure but I have my doubts that RHD pedals would work in an LHD car
the hydraulic line definitely won't
once the clip is in hand, take out the pedal assembly and post up pictures and you can compare
there's a thread about pedals too, but it would definitely be nice to know how different the RHD ones are.
