Just wanted to say thanks. i was changing my coolant temp sensor and plugs ran into the thread describing huge loss of power, which described my problem to the T I placed all of the old parts back and still the problem strong gas smell lack of power. Today I took my car to a ,shop, they indicated my cats were clogged o.e only available cost $3300. Ipectfully declined and picked up my car (25 mph hotter than hell) actually drove to look at another SC today but was not quite the same as mine that i've owned for 6 years. stumbled across this thread, decided to check the coils. pulled right wire from distributor car ran same pulled left car died and would not start.....coil
All I can say is take the test thanks everyone for saving$$$$ and my ride going to look for coil B tommorrow.

Well I changed the one ignition coil i identified as the problem. Getting those 4 little screws from the coil to the bracket consumed the most time in the install.reconnected fires right up, runs great. still a little stumble when maf connected another problem alltogether.
If someone has positively identified the weird small missing thing with the maf connected please respond. disconnected runs fine just lacks good shifts, upshifting and some power loss. Bought a MAF on Ebay no difference.

Gotta love these forums. This morning, my car lost a bunch of power suddenly. I limped it home for about 1 mile. The cats were red hot and smoke was coming from under the chassis. It was indeed the ignition coil - the one in front of the left exhaust manifold. Picked up the part at Kragen for $60.99, installed it in 10 minutes and called it a day. The only damage suffered from the excessive overheating is something getting loose in the exhaust system and rattling around. I will do a few spirited runs and see if it will work itself out. I really don't want to pull the exhaust apart.
