Mysterious coolant leak.
Hey guys,
So, first off let me say that I've searched both here, on CL.com and around the net.
I have this mysterious coolant leak. It's pretty darn significant, as I a go through a pretty good amount in a day. It takes about two days for the radiator light to come on, 1 day if it's a lot of driving. Considering it's winter, my car get's hot to the point of giving off steam from the bay. The temp needle stays, but I know it's hotter than usual just because of this.
I took it home, inspected all coolant system hoses and found nothing. It drips off the passenger side of the radiator the most.
I looked and looked, ran the car while on a jack to see if it would leak and couldn't trace it at all. It is an OUTSIDE sourced leak, I know this because I see it on my driveway. It's not loosing it through the engine.
By the way, this is a 92 SC400.
Any suggestions would be great, as I am stumped on this one.
Thanks in advance guys.

I checked around the thermo and didn't see any leaking. It's coming off the radiator and no where near the engine, UNLESS it's trickling down hoses and whatnot to meet the radiator and then drip from there.
hmm.
I'll look into it. Thank you for your input.
Any others?

That common leak is not on my car. hmm.
Double checked everything, hose clamps, hoses, nothing.
I guess I'll set off a day to take off everything and inspect it all.
bah.

Hey, fellow texan. I work on a few SC's at my shop. It seems like the main problem (I had this issue too, and one SC4) is the radiator itself starting to crack. I had one customer had his radiator explode.
Might not be your issue, but you gotta remember the radiator is plastic, and over time for heating up and cooling down, but be about time it's starting to give way.

Yes the plastic radiators are prone to cracking from heat. They will develop hairline cracks and leak overtime. They are hard to spot sometimes because they are so small, and the radiator plastic discoloring makes them harder to spot. You know I'm local so let me know if I can help Brandon.

Thanks Tony.
I'm actually minutes away from starting to check it out.
If it's a hairline, I'm going to see what that stop leak stuff will do. If nothing, then replace the damn thing. :P
Thanks guys, I'll let you know what happens.
