heater problem 93 SC400
My SC used to get warmed up in a few blocks and start blowing warm. That quit and she never seemed to warm up till I got on the freeway. Turned out I had a thermostat that had injested it own gasket an was stuch open. Made perfect sense and the new thermo solved the problem.
Now it seems to get warm a little longer again but not like the thermo is stuck . No matter how hot I select the temp it only blows lukewarm. AC off or on and outside or inside recirculation air.
The only thing I can think of the heater coolant control valve is shot or I need another thermostat. Also, I burped the system.
Got milk? Anyone?
Thanks,
John

try a search on "heater control valve". You can switch the 2 vacuum hoses on the valve to see if this is your problem.... I've had the 2 control valve vacuum hoses on my 400 reversed for about 10 years now without any adverse problems....

I had the same problem and turns out my reservoir was leaking and that was causing it to do that. So I got a good new one and it works amazing now!

switch hoses
Lexnor,
I have verified that the valve out on the firewall opens and closes by watching the valve lever under the valve. Does reversing the hoses cause the valve to operate or send a vac to somthing else?
Thanks,
John

John....
I'm not sure, like I said, it's been about ten years but, I discovered this fix by reading about it after searching on "heater" or "heat problem". Not sure exactl;y how it works but, what it does is create a situation where there valve is permanently open. Probably a good idea to reverse the hoses during summer to improve efficiency of AC. anyway, there are some great threads out there on this subject.... Of course you know the other more common cause of your heater not working is lack of coolant so, be sure your reservoir is topped off..... again, great info. on this board, try searching on "no heat; heater control valve; coolant reservoir; etc., etc.

I agree with the last response do some more searching preferably with pics cause words aren't always the best. There are a good amount of heater threads thats should solve the issue. Don't mess with the heater lines it was not ment to function in that way. You run the chance of heating up the motor faster which realy isn't a good thing.
