Default W58 to 1uz Adapter Plate (WITH PICS!)

I met up with the guy that makes these today (www.uza70.com). We went around town and started to plan my swap, ordered some stuff etc... but I picked up the adapter plate. Looks very nice. Bolts on 100%, nothing out of order etc.

This will use the stock automatic 1uz bellhousing but any W58 transmission. This is done to keep costs down (no need to buy a custom bellhousing), and keep the stock starter location. Since no fork is used, a Howe throwout bearing is used for a push style setup.

Anyways, some pics for now. I will start my work log soon.

And the throw out bearing...

That setup is working for me so far the transmission is not. 1st gear syncro is crap. Can still drive with it messed up.

I am going to need to pick your brain later on, as soon as the supercharger is done this weekend I will clean up the odds and ends and start working on the 5 speed swap.

Whats the turn around time for that adapter? I plan on ordering one very soon.

No. but the Thrust baring in the R154 is crap after a few wheel hops at even stock HP.

Quote from my friend with a turbo mk3 supra

"Jake,
Here is my broken parts out of the R154, Looks like the roller bearing housing split and then broke the thrust washer and then it pushed the broken thrust washer into the ball bearing and ate up the dust shield.

My stock supra on bald tires broke the awesome R154. On Transmission #5 and counting."

All this wile my na-T mk3 was running costant low 12s on a W58, i went though 3 motors but never changed the transmission.

W58s are also much smoother shifting the R154s specially the mkiv/sc300 one.

Depends who you talk to lol. Ive seen many W58's hold a lot of power and some that dont.. same with the R154's.

SC/Soarer/MK4 Supra W58's are a lot easier to get than the R154's... and should hold my power goal of 400whp no problem.

to the speculation of "power holding ability"?

its all in the driver. if you cant drive, rev match, slam gears, then there isnt a trans that will last in your hands. period.

good work matt. keep us updated. i wanna know how much this will cost. i have a friend that wants to swap and im the one to do it i guess. need to do research. matt if you have a minute hit me up on PM or AIM. tanx

Thanks for the clarification.

I'm looking at standard tranny's because I want to keep my 1uzfe

Most of my friends are like, " STupid, get a 2jzgte, supra, blah blah, " whatever.

Great engine, NO DOUBT. But I got an SC to be different from all the S-chassis guys (tired of the 240 hype) and now I want to be different from all the SC 2j's.

Plus, the sound of a v8 is pure sex, not to mention a turbo v8.

Goodluck man, and keep this thing alive! it's giving me much needed info!

W58 transmissions do not have a 1st gear synchro. Ask every SC 5-speed owner about downshifting to 1st and you'll find that'll we all complain about it. You just have to live with it.

For swap purposes, either one will work. But mine is a 1995 Supra MK4 W58 with the external shift linkage (so I can use a short shifter).

I always thought the only purpose for 1st gear is to get the car moving from a dead stop.
