Sup guys:
My W-58 on my 1jz sc300 is on its last days. So I am putting in the Turbo Soarer R154. As far as the rear goes I am trying to decide between the TT Auto 3.73 or Turbo 5 speed Soarer rear. I know most of you guys seem to go with the TT one but is anyone running the other rear in thier sc300. I am told by some that the Turbo 5 speed Soarer rear is also 3.7 and others say it is 4.08.

Just not to give out any confusion if anyone else ever reads this, this isn't a very informed statement, no offense. Tying to argue that you should use a 5spd or 6spd behind X final drive gearing is kind of redundant unless there are some serious gear differences in the trans, which in this case and in most manual cases, there isn't. What matters is the final drive gear ratio. Here's the R154 vs. V160 trans gears:
R154
First gear: 3.251
Second gear: 1.955
Third gear: 1.310
Fourth gear: 1.000
Fifth gear: .753
V160
First gear: 3.830:1
Second gear: 2.360:1
Third gear: 1.680:1
Fourth gear: 1.310:1
Fifth gear: 1:1
Sixth gear: 0.790:1
Now notice, the 1st and 2nd gears kind of split the difference, but on the R154 3rd becomes you're 4th gear on the V160, 4 becomes you're fifth, and 5 becomes your 6th. And on the R154 you need your 3rd and 4th, those are the money gears. Then on top of that, if you mate the 3.2 to the R154, second gear actually becomes almost as usuable as your 3rg gear was. Jackpot? I think so.
So you have drastically improved your usuable RPM. The fact that the 6 spd has an extra gear doesn't really mean anything, name one person who has ever used it while racing...... it's a cruising gear. Aside from that, if you're boosted with anything serious the 3.2 rear will give you more useable RPM range. Again, it all depends on what you're using it for. So while the 3.7 "pulls" it's going to "pull" you right out of where you car really starts making power and right into the next gear before you can really utilize the upper RPM. Again, I am talking about turbocharged 2jz's making some power. If you're auto, or your dragging it, or you AutoX, Drift, w/e, you may have your own preferences and rely on a certain gear/s most of the time. Reason I wrote all this is because I have the 3.7 and I've been down this road. Either way good luck.
