Get a nice exhaust, and maybe some springs. That'll run you about a g.

$1K gets us into the region of reasonably large modificatons: brakes/LSD/possible 5mt swap

#1. Brakes. best increase in G force for the money possible if car is stock.
#2. LSD - posi for your 1 wheel wonder, safety for rain/snow/rough surfaces
#3. 5mt swap would be ideal, but not for beginners. same with LSD swap, abit easier.

a normal guy can do brakes, although if noob u should not risk it unless u have somebody with experience to help or are mechanically inclined and read directions WELL.

I was thinking about putting in a torque converter, but that would nullify the 5 speed swap. I like manual, but sometimes you just wanna lay back and let the car shift.. haha..

Torque converter is fine and dandy... but I know after doing the 5sp swap... the power that was released by just having a less power hungry transmission was worth it. I picked up power through the entire power band. It was damn well worth it. I wouldnt bother with the torque conveter unless you are into drag racing.

Suspension and exhaust is good too!

Lawl. Nice. "Two of the big ones, and I need em by tonight."

Wanganstyl has the right idea. Brakes, LSD, or suspension. The majority of people that go turbo or S/C first soon realize the need for the upgraded necessities, for safety and reliability reasons. If you start small (brakes, coilovers, bushings, etc.) and work your way up, not only will you not waste your money by buying headers that you can't use and lose money on if you went a different route, but your ride quality will improve in the process and will still be for the most part on the reliable side. Also if you for some reason you wanted to sell, those are great selling points.

Get a AFC, you can easily gain some power getting rid of the factory tune. Usually this is the last step after bolt-ons for optimal performance, but since you're on a buget, this mod alone will make a more significant difference than the common CAI, exhaust, etc...
