Default Top Speed Muffler

I like the sound. Do I understand correctly that everything is stock and only the muffler and tip has been replaced?

Thanks Boergy! I am in California and am hesitant to mess with anything that won't pass our strict Smog Laws, but do want to free things up a bit.

it´s not so easy in california to modify?

I install next time as the 3rd catalytic a big 200 cells metal catalytic and a 3" middle pipe. after this, i make a vid and next step the IMF Header and the 2 main catalytics are removed. after every step, i do a emission test to see the values i post all this informations in my SC400 thread

Default Boergy Exhaust

California has the most restrictive smog laws in the U.S.A. Cars made in the US are made as 49 state models and Ca. models. If you replace the catalytic converters, they have to be Ca. only parts. FlowMaster makes Ca. only free flowing cats. Technically you can replace anything after the cats and still pass Ca. emission tests. I have seen lots of Ca. cars in this forum with everything replaced from the cats back. None of them have said what happened at their last smog test. I'd like to hear from them.

As I understand it, the cats are high up right after the manifold. The center canister and the two behind the rear axle are resonators designed for the quality of sound. I don't know what is really inside, or how restrictive they are. What concerns me are the many twists and turns, and the squashed pipes under the axle. I would like to free all that restriction up as you intend to do also. Which leads me to pipe size. If the pipe size is too large, high end horsepower is gained, but low end torque is lost. Smaller pipes retain low end torque. For most street and highway driving low end torque will make a car much faster than high end horsepower. The SC400 V-8 has good low RPM torque. What I understand from this forum is the optimum pipe size is 2 1/4". 3" pipe will give you the most H.P. on a dyno test, but will be slower on the street.

Now back to Ca. smog for a quick comment. Recent changes have made cars that easily passed before fail now. Mechanics are recommending changing all filters before a test. Even the smog testers tell you to drive down the freeway for 20 minutes or more to warm the car up really hot. Cold cars fail, hot cars pass. Even a badly sealed gas cap will make a car fail. If I was modifying a recent model car designed for the new regulations, I wouldn't worry. But modifying a twelve year old car with a 20 year old design, concerns me.

Can we hear from California owners that have had recent smog tests?

I like RS-R Ex-Mag...! I think if we all email RS-R about making the Ex-Mags for the SC's, they may consider making some...

The info on his youtube video just states "mufflers and resonator delete & bosal tips". Thats all. It sounds pretty good.

The rims are Japanese Wald, mine are 18/8 and 18/9 with a 35mm offset, and they clear big brakes.
