SC400 engine swap with a Tuindra motor
#16
I have a member currently using modified oem 2uzfe pistons for the 1.5UZFE swap. He is trying to save some money so he is modifying the stock 2uz pistons. You can do some search on youtube to see some videos of the swap. It is a great swap for street application. I am almost done with my 2UZFE VVTi twin turbo. Waiting for few things. It will be fun.
My current project:
Car: 1995 SC400
Engine: 1998 SC400 VVTi
Block: 2UZFE
FI: Twin Turbo
Trans: TH400
Body: 1997-2000
Color: Black on Black
ECU: AEM or Adaptronic

If ur trying to go fast put a 2jz in it... And if you do put a v8 in it...there are a lot better choices than ford products. The LS7 v8 would be interesting. Anything older would most likely be slower than a good 2jz setup tho. The Toyota v8s will also be slower than a 2jz.
Depends on how much money ur gonna spend tho. A good 2jz can run several thousand dollars in engine management alone. If you dont plan to spend money on the motor then I can see why you want a v8.
If you wanna go fast and got the cash put a 2jz in it. You can make anything you want from 200hp-1000hp. With heavy duty rods and valve springs you can even spray it and drive around in first gear all day if you feel like it.
The toyota v8s would prolly be fairly cheap especially the one that comes with the sc400.
I did some quick looking and it appears the LS7 would prolly cost as much or more than a 2jz. And they weight in about the same 2jz being ~15-30lbs heavier.

At the very upper limits (over 1,000HP), the 2JZ will handle more HP, and the 1UZ block will probably split. Not many venturing there though, and those that are, are spending tons of money to do so, with less torque.

Yes it does have 6 Bolt mains. In case you do not know, I am finishing up my SC400TT Project car now, and I built my motor myself, so, I had each and every one of those main caps in my hands. Remember though, it is an aluminum block, and without modifying the block for increased structural integrity, or simply remaking the block as a custom unit, going beyond 1,000 RWHP will stress the motor. Now, I love the 1UZ, and that is my favored powerplant for my SC, but the 2J has already been proven well beyond 1,000 HP. I have heard claims of the 1UZ at 1,000 HP, but never seen a dyno to prove it. I built mine to do that, but I will take my time trying to get there.
I have also seen pics of a split 1UZ block on a drag car on Lextreme's site. David can you chime in and point people to that thread?
Thanks,
Ryan

You're right there, my friend. I strongly believe the 1UZ can take 1000 rwhp with similar amount of rwtq with the cylinder sleeves and engine girdle to reinforce the block. I haven't see a 2JZGTE with 1000 rwtq. The torque is what breaks all parts in the engine and chassis.
Another alternative is using the 2UZ block. It's made of cast iron as the 2JZGTE.
