5000 seems about the right time to change. Check the condition of it. I know down here in Southern California with all the smog, I usually change it every 3000.

I actually remember someone mentioning a while ago that some of the gas vapors in the gas tank can escape if the gas cap is really deteriorated. Check to make sure its keeping the tank pressurized. If there is a hissing noise when you open the gas cap then its good, but if it doesn't make any noise, then its leaking.

You can also try seafoaming your car. Search seafoam and you will get a TON of posts about it.

My logic when it comes to diagnosing a car is to always do the very simplest stuff first and move up from that.

Yeah, somebody was making a big deal about the gas caps on a thread a year or so ago, so I bought a new one.

I put 160 miles on the car , easy driving, just a little a.c. Filled up today 23 m.p.g. I keep trying to figure out how I got the #s wrong the last time and I dont know, could the gas pump have been out of wack?

I normally get 24 mpg with highway miles and no air con. Love it! I hate driving in the city though with our v8 though

Filled up again today 22 mpg, I called the manager of the save-a-step to alert him to the incorrect reading on his pump and hes awfully slow about getting back to me and giving my $15.00 overage on the pump. Says he wasnt aware of other problems with that pump.
