Question 97 SC300 Auto to Manual conversion - Who's done it?

97 SC300 Auto to Manual conversion...

I know there's a lot of "how to" threads on this topic, but I'm interested in:

> Comments from those who have done it or had it done; problems, drivability issues, computer, etc.

> Reliable parts sources and experienced installers in the Midwest.

I'm looking for a "turn key" no problems conversion, with stock appearance.

Thank you!

I've done the conversion on a friends SC. It's no different than doing it on a pre 97 SC. The 97 I was working on was running on the auto ECU and it ran fine. It could have done better though. If you want the car to start at the turn of the key you will have to bypass the nuetral safety switch. Search for BIGGU's diy thread.

I have recently dont this conversion on my 97 sc300. I went with the r154 tranny. If you want to have your car be as stock as possible you should look into finding a manual ecu and then you wont have to bypass anything. in my swap even my reverse in the dash lights up when i put the car in reverse along with back up lights. It takes a little bit of time to wire it up right but it is worth it

Yes. I recomment using the model with the extended shifter neck also. But no matter what you get, you are still looking at making minor tunnel modifications.

Even with the correct ECU, you will still have to bypass the NSS. I found that out the hard way with all 3 auto to 5speed swaps Ive done. Ive done it on a 93, 95, and on a 97. All three had to be bypassed. Its probably easier than wiring up the reverse lights.

It would be quicker for you to do a search. There are writeups.

For the 97+ soarer, exactly which r154 tranny did you need? The later model with the remote shifter or the older one with direct mount shifter?

Unless the Auto shifter hole is long enough to house either one?
