Well hate to break it to you but it is a 17 year old car... previous owner may not have taken care of the transmission servicing as they should have... might need to get it rebuilt .. check the tranny fluid,,,, is it nice and red or burnt and dark ?

I checked the trans fluid and it is still nice and red but before i got the car it was just sitting in the driveway for a long time cause the previous owner got their keys stolen so do u think that has anything to do with it maybe some build up or something? I've also notice that the more i drive the car it seems to be getting better and not lagging as much. Any suggestions please let me know.

You might want to change all the fluids and change out the filter (assuming it has one) and just drive it around. GL

BTW Where in CA are you?

How many miles are on the car? just cause the engines are bullet proof doesn't mean the trannys are If it was ragged on, even the best transmission fluid wouldn't save it, just too much wear and tear would be taking place if someone was driving it like a rental car during any course of its life.

or it could be bad shift solenoids, which are pretty common on the sc's.

well it does have about 189,000 miles on it and i forgot to say that it runs better when the car temp is very low but when it heats up it starts to lag and i don't know if its normal but the temp gauge is a little bit above the half way marker. But anyways i will try and do all the things you guys said to do and check and i'll get back to you guys when i'm done. I really appreciate all the help and by the way i'm from Chico CA.

Common in both 300 and 400s ?

How many hours of labor are needed to replace those?

what type of trans fluid? if its anything by type-t you trans might croak. certain kinds of trans fluids are use to help apply adhesion others lubricate. type-t lubricates, other types of dexron stick. see the problem?

yeah it's pretty common for both, actually, and if you are slightly mechanically inclined then you should be able to do it.

actually you are describing the EXACT symptoms that my 92 sc400 had before the tranny quit on me. I mean exactly. So yeah. Good idea to check out those shift solenoids or even get a rebuild. Changing the fluid helped a bit before it happened, but in the end it was just a old worn tranny. Maybe the previous owner had something to do with that though...
