Default fitting a getrag 6 speed into a 1993 5 speed tunnel

So i've been told that the supra 6 speed tranny wont fit into my 1993 SC300 without some modification to the trans tunnel. However, no one has ever clearly explained to me why it wont fit.

Can someone clarify exactly what needs to be done. Search came up with limited info.

thanks

so the only issue is the tunnel being more narrow on the 93 models? It's just a matter of banging with a hammer and making a little more room?

My main concern is the shifter location being off.

yea, when you take the carpet out there is like a line on the tranny tunnel where to cut... cut on the line put in that piece from the bottom. weld it.. and seal it!

thanks for the link.

I heard that later SC models did not need this modification. Then I realized that you were auto before,so it makes sense that you would need to swap the tunnel out.

Just to confirm, 1995+ manual models dont need this mod, correct?
