It might be the no2 shift solenoid. Solenoid operation goes like this:

1st gear 1-on 2-0ff
2nd gear 1-on 2-on
3rd gear 1-off 2-on
4th gear 1-off 2-off

So, if the no2 solenoid is not working, the trans could only shift into 1st and 4th. Shifting from 1st to 4th at to low of an engine speed might overload the engine causing it to stall. Could also be why it will shift to a higher gear when revving high in first.

You have to pull the transmission pan to get to the solenoids. There are 4 total on the valve body. The shift solenoids are the two smaller ones next to each other, both being held in with one bolt.

GL

Attatched some info for you. Note, the valve body does not need to be removed to get the solenoids. Bring a ratchet, 10mm socket (for the pan bolts), 12mm socket (for the bolt holding the solenoids, might also be a 10mm, can't remember), a hammer (for beating on the pan to loosen the sealer) and something to pry the pan off with and you should be good. The worst part will likely be seperating the pan from the dipstick tube.

Yes, I think it's the 100% the transmission solenoid #2. When I take the car on the highway while the car is still cold. It runs fine and when I take the over drive off which shifts to 3rd gear the engine feels like it's going to stall. This only happen when the engine is at normal temp, is this normal? Thanks again for your input.

LOL, don't get too excited. I'm not really convinced that the transmission is your problem.

You might consider changing the coolant temp sensor first (for the ECU). It's cheap and easy to change and could very well be the problem.

Or, you could just unplug it and see if anything changes.

See pic 1st page.

You don't need to take everything apart shown to get to it, you don't even need to drain the coolant to replace it.

There is another coolant sensor (for the gauge in the dash) directly next to the main sensor. The one you want is the hardest to get to and the top / connector portion of the sensor is usually green.

This car is very weird. I took it out tonight for a test drive and it when fine. It didn't even shut off on me. I'm guessing that cool night time temp had to something to do with it. I'm going to take it out again in the afternoon where it's hotter to retest it. thanks again
