Dilemma over which turbo.

Dilemma over which turbo.
Hey Guys:
I am finally going over to the darkside and putting in the single swap into my 1z. I know it is personal goals for all like more HP range or more lowend power. But my question is what is a better turbo and my goal is to make around 500 and some change on pump. More of mid range somthing that will boost up on the streets but still be able to hold up against the highway kings of South FL.
My two options I have at an amazingly good price right now are:
Garrett GT3582R ball-bearing 0.82 AR.
or
Precision 67 Dual ball bearing turbo .60/.68
Both are brand new in the box.
Any words of advise or comments on both of these would be awsome.

Same question (not tryin to hijack..)
Im also doin the 1JZ swap, so my 1JZ is Bone-Stock..
The only thing Im doin now, is switchin' to single turbo, but I dunno what turbo to switch to.
I have a Drewgo T4 Flange Turbo Manifold.
My mechanic (Supra Dr.) says go with a T61 A/R.68 but Im not "too sure" what these numbers mean, and he also said to do some resarch on CL,
so here I am.
I don't plan on doing any mods 'til next summer, since Im on a budget,
but I'd like to be at 350-400 if possible, while stock (maybe up the injectors if need be, but thats all.)
Which Turbo should I get?

my thoughts on this
you want more of low end power with the ability to hold your own up top
with the 1j being 2.5 liter smaller displacement , rem smaller displacement larger turbo = more lag but more top end power
if i was in a 1jz and had the 1jz rev band i would go the gt35 ballbearing route with a .81 hotside and drop in some 264 cams or the precision 6262 dbb version still with .81 hotside to breathe better
with this you should see full boost by say 3600 or so rpm and with the cams realize this power with no drop off up to 7500rpm .. you will hit your 500rwhp goals at about 24psi which with proper tuning would be safe for the 1j
you would kill us down low and still have very respectable pull going up top
just make sure you change rail and up to some 750cc inj and run 2 pumps (as you know my method , 1 intank ,1inline) and you will grin ear to ear
jordan has the right idea with the 6265 on the 2jz , he sees full boost quicker then we do ( although i am right behind him with my 67dbb) but he makes a incred amount of trq quickly and has that trq follow hp right up to the top
rem trq gets you going , hp keeps you going
bigger is not always better and more hp does not always equate to winning pulls ...

Hm, okay..
However; the only Turbo vehicle I've ever owned was a Chrystler LeBaron (It was actually reeeally nice, and super fast. Digital Gauges, Leather Interior, and the Boost pushed you back into your seat..) when I was 16, and knew jack* about cars; but I've never upgraded to a turbo, or anything like that.
So this'll be my first time doing such a High Performance upgrade..
My last car was a Lancer ES "N/A" 4-Banger..
So when I hear "T61 A/R .68" and "GT35 ballbearing with a .81 hotside" ...
what does that mean to me?
Correct me if Im wrong; but I take it "hotside" means the not-as-pretty portion of the turbo that mounts to the manifold.. and .81 is the diameter of the hole thru which exhaust passes.. correct?
If so, then whats "A/R" and ".68", is that the diameter of the coldside (if such a term exists) which blows the newer, fresher, air to the intake?
What you said at first is exactly what Im looking for btw..
"more low end power with the ability to hold my own up top"
I don't wanna do too many mods off the bat though; I'd like to get the engine in, the turbo on, and the car running first; so I at least have a daily driver.
Then, in the Spring/Summer I'll look at upgrading the Cams, Injectors, etc.
I just need what'll gimme good power now; but will continue to handle more later, when I finally do those upgrades.

you got to love speaking car...
i always get the WTF is he talking about look when i get started...lol
but LEXFORLIFE IS LIKE THE GODFATHER WHEN IT COMES TO THE SC...
so in my opinion i think you'll be alright wit the gt35 wit your build...
"CityKnight" - but if you want want a little more now you could always chip your sc I'm not sure how much you'll get out of it but you can always search the forms.

Guys Thanks for the great input. I have decided to go with the Precision Billet Wheel 6765 Dual ball bearing turbo with an .81 hotside. I know my goals are 480-500hp but as the rest of us know "it is never enough". I will want to push it to its limits.
Ed i think the 6265 spools up so nice and hits that power really quick I have seen Jordans car run a few times down the track. I would love to ride in his car on the highway see how it runs. But I think that with the 6265 the .81 back is going to be to big for that turbo set up. Might pull the slack on the topend but it is also going to be working that 62 double hard. What do you think? I think the best back housing for that size turbo is the .68 hot side which I belive is what Jordan is running. You know first hand the .68 will drop you on your face on the top. There is a reason everyone is bumping from the .68 to a .81 on those 67 turbos. Plus I yet to see one of these guys running the billet wheel and dbb on the 1jz!

the reason i cancelled my order was i talked with a couple of master tuners as well as turbo tech guys and they all concurred that unless i am going up in the 25+ psi range and i do mean up i would not really see the benefits of a 6765 billet dbb shine ....they also said if only looking in the mid 500's to say 600 on pump just go with the traditonal 6776 dbb and will make the power i am looking for
now on the 1j your requirements of boost to make hp will be higher then 2jz , rogers car makes excellent power , runs mean as hell but was up in the 28psi range to do it , more boost more heat more potentials for failures and rem he also has cams
i still would encourage you to look at a 6262 with .81 as opposed to 6265
read this excerpt from a debate on supraforums by mark conte known as one of the turbo masters out there
http://supraforums.com/forum/showthr...=555419&page=2
heres another comparison to 67mm
http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=541876
there r several other reads out there including a few from mike from awd motorsports on his 4cyl evo making well over 700 on a t3 6265
i think for what you are after a 6262 or6265 billet dbb with a .81 with 264 cams would make you smile ear to ear hitting full boost around say 3800 and no drop off up to 7500 rpm thats what i call a streetable powerband that hands out whoopa$$ , i wouldnt go as far as saying king of the streets but would make for one hell of a streetfigher

Old Thread but I am having trouble deciding on what turbo to get myself. I am looking at a Precision Billet 6265 w/ divided housing in case I wanted to add a QSV sometime down the road. At first I was thinking 0f .81 ar but I later read with a divided housing the .81 ar will be more likea .6X ar.
At the moment I am aiming for 400rwhp only because of my W58 but I will plan on building a R154 and then aim for 550rwhp. I want to hit boost within 3krpm and no later than 4k
Any thoughts? Any help is appreciated

6265 will be your best friend and if you decided to do QSV you can just bought 1.00 ar divided and go from there.
6262 doesn't spool any faster than the 6265 with the same AR, the 6262 will just choke up top.

A 6265 is a damn good street turbo! I agree this will be your best friend!
