SC300 5MT transmission whine noise
High pitched whining noise when every gear except 4th gear. Most noticeable between 2400-3000RPM.
See my last post or this link for youtube video.

For a long time I thought it was an electrical noise and after spending some more time just driving in the highway and listening I'm 100% sure it's the transmission. If I press in the clutch it goes away, so that makes it obvious.
If you hold the gas at like, 2800RPM, then lightly press and let off, it makes that ...hmm. The pitch changes and the sound volume changes.
Thank you,

throw out bearing is usually more of a chatter/squealing noise when the clutch is disengaged. It doesn't make a noise when the clutch is engaged... at least it shouldn't??
Maybe a clutch fork or shifter cables?? I really don't know... it's odd that the pitch changes with rpm's... only thing I can think of that would do that is a bad ground of some sort? I don't know jack squat about electrical stuff.... sorry if my post is completely useless. lol

Pretty much only audible from inside the cabin. Maybe if I had someone else drive it I could listen.
Next time I'll try climbing out the window on the freeway and have a friend steer the car.
I'll be doing some driving today so I'll make sure to pay attention to each gear and see if I can hear it.
Thanks all

Pretty much only audible from inside the cabin as I can't hear it unless I'm going at least 45 mph in 5th gear.

Or you can be ghetto, and jack up all 4 wheels, and drive it in the air...
j/k... that would be bad news bears. Find a local place with a dyno? Not sure what else to tell you.

Hello everyone. I have video now. This happens in EVERY gear except 4th.
In this youtube video the sound is most audible at 3 seconds through 8 seconds. Then at 18 seconds through the end. It's a high pitched sound. The variance is me tapping the gas pedal.

I have the exact same issue. I also got the exact same answers from everyone... haha.
Its NOT throwout bearing. How would it make sense for it to not whine in 4th gear.
From what I have bee researching and been told it can be 1 of 4 bearings in the transmission. The one on the input shaft, or the 3 on the carrier shaft.
Only way to fix it is to pull it apart. My goal is to take it apart when I get my R154 in it and have a look around...

I sent the video to a transmission shop in Gardena, CA. They suspect that the countershaft bearing is the cause as when in 4th gear there is a direct link to...? which would explain why it happens in every gear excet 4th. I forgot what he explained, but something like that.
