has anyone ever run VVti coils with a TT ignitor?
I know the other way around is not recommended.

I haven't but you'd obviously only use 3 of the 6 TT igniter channels.

The real downside, however, is the TT igniter will limit coil dwell; this defeats the purpose of going to VVT-i coils. Why go to a larger coil if the igniter limits the dwell? The larger coils will work best with as long a dwell as possible; this is configurable with the AEM. Additionally, it's always best to use the correct coil/igniter combination.
