All 99 SC300 owners Air intake Question
i know must may be running the BFI intake or some form of it or maybe nothing. but i wanted to see if anyone was running a intake system and if so how did you go about removing the housing, where the MAF is connected, from the box itself to run a filter with the bolt on adapter. it seems to be all one piece. i know the non vvti had the metal housing with the MAF mounted on top. but on vvti the metal housing isnt metal its plastic and seems to be one piece with the box. am i gonna have to just run the piping to my box. i hope not. just wanna see if anybody has already been through this before i start hacking on my box because it is square at the end where it meets the box and i could dremel it the mount the square filter bracket then apply the filter. basically i got an intake for the wrong year car.

The MAF isn't one piece with the box. it should just slide right out from the box after removing one or two screws located on the MAF. As for the cone filter, it might be able to clamp on to the plastic MAF but there's a chance it might damage the plastic if you tighten it too tight or fall off the MAF after some time since there's not much to clamp on to. You'll probably be better off doing the BFI with the intake pipe instead off the cone filter IMO.

well heres what i did
well here is what i did picture's. my computer is pretty slow so i didnt edit the pictures size. straight from my phone.
i need the bracket to go with this setup but it doesnt seperate.
so i cut it off like so
so i sanded the edges and drilled holes to do this
and here it is after i cleaned and recharged the filter
should i add the K&N sticker or leave it be.

Lol
It wasnt made to say it was better than the BFI. Yes i have considered the heat soak just havent did anything about it yet. I made this to show what i did because i didnt want the BFI and wanted something different. Maybe someone else would like another option as i did so i showed what i did. didnt say that it was perfect.
