Any Modification done to your car that is not C.A.R.B approved is illegal in California. The ARB website has a list of all the executive orders for aftermarket parts that can be installed on you car in California. The website is (http://www.arb.ca.gov/)

So having the aftermarket cam gears won't effect smog right?

It'll affect the lift and duration so yeah it might adversely affect your numbers

yes just having the cam gears in the car in california... is just cause for the officer to give you a modified emissions ticket and send you to get a smog.... total bs.. but it happens...
