Default cam gears legal in California?

Exactly what the title says, are aftermarket cam gears legal in california? if they aren't, will they effect smog in any way?

thanks

I don't live in California but to my knowledge unless you degree your cam gears they're basically just for looks/cosmetics so it shouldn't affect anything or it shouldn't be illegal..

I think the only way to get in trouble with noticeable cam gears is to not pass the visual check from smog, but then again its just what i think.

Why don't you just use the stock cover and cover them up. I dont think they are going to take your timing belt cover off to see if you have some freaking cam gears, and if they do...well I think the government has better things to focus on...

+1, if they're covered, you'll be fine.
