How many quarts of AT fluid do I need for the SC400?

I would just stick with what the car has in it.
Most Toyotas pre-03 utilize Dexron type-II (basic ATF) which you can get a Autozone, etc. But if your car says you're running Type-T IV, stick with it.
Depending on mileage, your transmission is used to one thing, if you change it you can often times cause problems. (like drinking milk your whole life, then one day switching to chocolate milk, yes its milk, but its different, might throw a red flag with your gut). Some can get away with it, some cant.
When in doubt always go OEM.

The back of the bottle didn't say anything like that. The guy at the Toyota Dealership called a Lexus place and they said that it could use Type-4... I don't know... He didn't look that sure.

Great. Are the trannies for the auto SC300s and 400s the same? The manual says the capacity of that tranny is just less than 9 quarts?
