OBDI vs OBDII re: 5spd swap
Hey guys, I'm still in the planning stages of buying my SC300 and doing a 1jz or 2jz swap on it but I am having a bit of trouble finding information.
I see a lot of 5spd swaps for sale on craigslist, or even on here, but I'm wondering....due to the fact that I really want a car to be in good shape interior and mostly exterior, I've only come across 96+ cars with OBDII and automatics that are to my standards. How hard is it to swap in a 5speed say an r154 into one of these cars considering it must be next to impossible to find a 5spd ecu. Whats involved in the 5spd swap besides the obvious, clutch master cylinder, pedals, some interior pieces etc.
I am planning on using AEM EMS , but considering a few other engine management systems, just wondering if this will alleviate my concerns with trying to find a 5spd obdII computer? Can the aem ems or any other ems replace the need for a 5spd ecu ? or will a piggy back system attached to the stock auto ecu take care of that as well?

You don't need a 5 speed ECU. An auto ECU works fine - I'm running my auto ECU in my swapped 5 speed. Of course, you may have issues with emissions - it will throw a code. In AZ you fail OBDII if your light is on - even if unrelated to the engine. GAY That's why I bought a 95.
5 Speed swap to W58 is pretty easy. Search on R154, I can't speak from experience. You forgot driveshaft and flywheel on your parts list.

OK ...so i do plan on going standalone, as i think its just a better idea. With a standalone, can you program out a lot of the problems? and the CEL will that work? I have NO experience with standalones, so just wondering what they can do.
