back on topic, you can run the T61 and you shouldnt feel much lag..I was losing traction in 1st and 2nd gear with my stock auto with a Turbonetics 60-1 .68 a/r on the hot side..just decided it was time to go larger with the 4088

I was wondering the same thing, accept im on the other end of the boat. I want to go NA-T on my Auto and I was like hmm whats the difference. the auto can hold a good amount of power though so why state ones auto and ones for manual? Is it just simply because of lag issues?

Because the stock auto wont hold much power. They are brittle, but if you take care of it and dont abuse it, it will last a while with 9-10psi. But lag is a big issue with the trans choice. Once my GT4088 was on, my SC was a dog from a stop, but once it spooled up it was a blast to drive.

An auto trans has benefits though. if you can rebuild it (it is simple) and add a torque converter then it will launch harder and faster than a manual, as well as shift faster plus no missed shifts lol. they can also be made to be super strong, without an expensive gearset. I'm keeping mine an auto, but going to use an Aristo trans, modify the valve body and add a 3400 stall converter. this will help the most and can spool up a 61 sooner than a manual

I just read a ton of info on the SC300 auto trans and yeah it can't handle much power at all. Shimming it and a big oil cooler will be okay for 300hp but 350 makes it a time bomb. Are there any solutions to this issue? my plans are 350whp reliably. So now it's time to figure out my trans route. I found a few rebuild kits for around $600 but idk what else to do.

Lex1220, the price for a rebuild kit is right, and make sure to get it from Import Performance Trans. They include some higher quality pieces and better clutch packs. Next, call suprastore.com for a set of pressure tubes. These install in by removing the valve body and placing them in. They are only $99. Then find a performance trans shop and rebuild the converter to have a higher stall. The kit from IPT combined with the pressure tubes should allow you to make around 500HP without worries of grenading the trans, although you will need at least a 2800 stall converter as well to spool up any turbo putting out that much power.
