Default Need QUICK Opinion on AEM Standalone

I've been preparing for my install and today I stumbled across a local guy selling an AEM 30-1100 (I was probably going with V2....but V1 will work just fine) for an INCREDIBLE price. NIB with everything, never hooked up. However, he's had it a year or so and really doesn't have any documentation to back it up. Obviously the warranty is up. Little scary....but the price is oh so right Should I be wary??? Apparently he needs money quick and I'm pretty sure I could talk him out of a kidney for spare change if I tried.

Worst case something's wrong and I have to get it repaired....but I repeat, the price is killer.

Any advice or opinions here. I'm taking a chance.....but also chancing saving a ton of $$$.

I bought one that was several years old off a member i met on the forums and it works just fine.
I did see it working in the car before I bought it though.

That's the kicker right there......I'd actually prefer to buy a used unit that I've seen work than a NIB with no documentation. I can tell you there hasn't been a used one on these boards or the Supra boards as low as the price I've found however.

So buy it and if it doesn't work send it back to AEM for a refresh. I had an issue with mine. Some genius (PO) had wired it to 12v instead of 5v and fried something. I think it cost me $120 total to have it fixed/refreshed.

you could plug it in your car real quick and open up tuner pro and see if you can connect to it. obviously don't try and start it or anything until you wire up the sensors properly, but if you can connect to it its probably good and shouldnt do any harm.

only buy it if the warranty tag/seal on it has not been broken and serial number tags are still attached which means box was never opened .. if box shows never opened then you should be fine

If your car is a manual, then you have less to worry about. I was told the early AEM isn't friendly with auto tranny.
