Default Differential EPIC Fail!!!!

SO if you ever wanted to know what a differential is NEVER supposed to look like take a peek at this bull$*%t. If anybody has problems where their car is jerking real bad when making turns and pulling off from complete stops this may be your ailment but hopefully not. Note: The glob of silver goo is not anti-sieze it is molten metal a.k.a gear teeth that have long since broken off.

Did you just buy the car? I can't tell from that picture but do you think the previous owner purposely welded the diff to make it a permanent 2 wheel drive (aka cheap wannabe lsd)

wow I just had my mind blown. I didn't even think that it could have been welded. the guy I bought it from is truly car illiterate. the only thing is the cups that the cv axles sit in act like they are going over a hump. I'm not sure but that sounds broken to me. anybody know if it is supposed to be like that?

@frankdms~ how would I clean it out? and how would I know if it is welded?

if it was welded you would know. The tires would chirp when you pull into a parking spot or make a turn. I guarentee you it wasnt welded. If you cant tell you have a welded diff, you have a major problem.

anybody know the metal the gears are made out of because I am unsure if it would get that hot to melt metal. The oil dripping had literally liquid metal in it so I am hoping that it was welded and I just didn't recognize it. anyHELP would be appreciated.

Soooo, why not inspect the gears, and see if any chunks of metal are missing? Also, unless it was mercury, there really is no way molten metal could come out mixed with oil, and it not be on fire.

Thank you soldier

And that diff is shot- I agree with the previous recommendation of picking of a supra tt auto pumpkin. A good LSD can really change the dynamics of a car!

I highly doubt this is welded. Sorry to he misleading in my previous post but whenever you turn into a spot your tires would chirp and you would know something was up....it's really obvious if you have a welded diff. You would know
