2JZ-GTE swap questions
I am having a really hard time getting my hands on a 1JZ so I was looking around for a 2JZ-GTE swap. Theres a local guy that selling a 2JZ-GTE with trans, pretty much a complete swap but without the ECU. He's asking a little too much, JHOT sells them for less but they havent received their next container till next month or so.
When you usually buy the whole swap from the engine distributors, do the 2JZ-GTE's with 5 speeds normally come with the W58 or the R154 trans? The guy is not too sure what trans it is. How can I tell the difference between the two? Another thing is, do these 2JZGTE's have igniters?? I dont think he mentioned that it has one. I want to get an idea what I need to see if I can deal him down a little.

there are no 2jz-gte swaps that come with 5 speeds normally.
the most common is an auto. if you get the 6spd swap the price doubles or triples the amount. the gte has an ignitor, you can get one used for ~100 or so, there are alot of options to choose from.
easiest imo to get an auto swap and source your 5 speed locally.

I have a W58 presently on my GE motor, its stock. The guy selling the GTE is selling it for his buddy and sounds like he doesnt know what he's talking about. He advertised that it comes with a 5 speed trans, hopefully its a R134.. How can I tell the difference between the W58 and R134? I havent done any work to my trans and had never seen it.
And how easy or hard is it to convert front sump to rear??

R154 on the left- w58 on the right
easiest way to tell if they're not next to each other is to look at the spidering on the top of the transmission. Also the r154 will have inspection plates on the sides
and if it looks like this.... go buy it. Now.

see those 2 holes on the right side of the transmission, on the top right above the flange for the driveshaft. thats where the external shifter brackets bolt to. its not connected for some reason in that picture but 95+ w58's and all v160's have the remote shifter setup.
