Default Transmission Fluid.. Should i change it myself or have lexus change it?

Hey..
i was wondering..
is it hard to change the transmission fluid on a SC400?
My cousin is a decent mechanic.. but not a professional mechanic.
i was wondering would it be hard for him to change it?
or should i have the Lexus dealership change it for me?
i heard and read on one of hte other threads that there are many parts you gotta empty the fluid or something...
if so.. how much would it cost for lexus to change the fluids?
Thanks For Your Help!

sincerely
greg

If you are planning to do a standard transmission fluid change, 2 qts, it is very easy to do and you can do it yourself. There is a drain plug in the transmission pan you use to drain the old fluid. Then use the transmission check fluid dipstick to fill the new T-IV fluid back in.

i thought if you were to do a full transmission change you need more qts and stuff.. i heard it was a lot too... like at the lexus dealership they use like 10qts or something like that i read... is that true? and is it worth it for me to do it? i got 132k... the tranney still feels good.. but i want to change it... to be on the safe side .... you know... how mcuh would a fulll transmission fluid change be? and is it worth it?

thanks for all your help guys

dumdumgreg,

I flushed my transmission recently. It took about 12 qts, and it cost me about $200, I did it at Toyota dealership that was willing to do it. They used a transmission flush machine that they hook up to the cooler line. While the car is on it takes out the old fluid and circulate the new one. My fluid was not burned, it didn't smell, but the shifts were noticeable, not to bad but noticeable, so I decided to give it a try. Afterwards car stared to shift smoother so to me it was worth doing. I decided to do 2 qts fluid replacement every 15K miles, as suggested by the user manual, but every 2 years or so I will to the full transmission flush.

changing the 2 qts yourself isn't that hard, w/ a set of ramps. But if you want the full affect of a tranny flush, go to your dealership & get a powerflush.
