Have a Legend...possibly want an SC300
Hey everyone, I own a 1991 Acura Legend Coupe, and if you don't already know, aftermarket support for the Legend is almost non-existant. Therefore I am very interested in purchasing an sc300 5spd. However I am unaware of aftermarket support for the Lexus, I am simply ignorant on the subject. So if someone could enlighten me on why I should get an sc300 and what kind of aftermarket support is avaiable, I would appreciate it!!
Actually there was some disscussion on the Legend forums about a Supra Turbo engine swap to the sc. Is this possible? If it is, I'm in!!

Welcome to ClubLexus! The Legend is one of the best Acuras ever made. The Coupe was my favorite for a long time! Your car looks nice with the newer style wheels (from a CL?)....just needs some lowering!
Anyways, moving onto the SC, just read some of the threads in the SC section (But also read the GS section as it gets the most traffic) for mods...a turbo add-on or a 2JZ-GTE swap (the Supra motor) is not only possible, but already has been done by a few of our members. There are many aesthetics mods also, body kits, wheels, etc., etc...suspension is pretty much swapable with the Supra (coilovers and sways) and the brakes can be upgrade to either SupraTT brakes or some real serious units like the AP Racing 6-Piston setup or the Brembo 4-piston setup...

well there's a WHOLE LOT of people that have either turbocharged the 2jz-ge motor, or done a Supra swap...
the SupraTT swap is a lot more expensive, time consuming, etc... but you're given more engine aftermarket (like cams/heads/turbo upgrades, etc)
but you can make plenty of power with just adding a turbokit to the non-turbo motor... you can swap out the 6-speed from the SupraTT and its LSD rear-end too... the non-turbo motor can handle TONS of power... in excess of 650rwhp before you need to upgrade the pistons
there's TONS of stuff you can do to them
and if you're interested, i may be selling my 95 5-speed... money is too tight and i lost my job

Leo.... Hey whats up? I started a post about general things to look for in an SC400.... my dad might be buying one and wants to know some stuff about them. I am also possibly looking at one here in Calgary too. If any of you guys have anything to tell a future owner about these cars or any advice or what to look for, that would be great!

Hi there. Like you, I also have a Legend and a SC300. The Legened has a lot more torque than the SC300, therefore, you feel that you are going faster (in reality, you are at the same speed). The SC has a VERY smooth ride not to mention powered by the 2JZ-GE.

as you can see by my screen name, i know Legends =)
I wouldnt say they have ALOT more torque, thats definitely not true. BOTH '91-'93 legend coupes and SC300 have 210 torque.
although i do admit the legend 'feels' like it has more torque.
mostly probably because the legend's torque comes at 4500 rpm and SC300 comes at 4800 rpm.

LeoLegend, I am in the same situation as you are right now. I am considering purchasing a used SC300. I also was interested in how the car can be modified, as I used to have a Prelude. The car I had after that was a Mazda Millenia, which I loved the luxury aspect of it, but it lacked performance, badly. From what I have found out so far, the SC can be easily fixed up, whether it is engine or suspension mods. The fact that there is so much aftermarket support (I never knew there were so many aftermarket parts until I started reading these forums) is perhaps going to sway my decision to definitely purchase an SC.
BTW-That is one nice Legend, are those Type-S wheels?

I had a Type II 6 speed..... Kicked some major butt.... Sold it to my future brother in law..... If you aren't going to turbo the sc300, just go with the 400....

the Legend might have felt like it had more torque because of inferior drivetrain layout too
transversely mounted engines cause more front to rear weight transfer
The torque in my SC3 comes on at around 3000 and pulls right to redline... oh and I've beaten plenty of ghetto-Legends in the area... ran a nice one too that happened to be a 6-speed...

true statement the old sc 300 couldn't touch the old Legends.

I'm sure the average 6spd legend would give a stock 5spd SC300 a run for its money. The Magazines tested them and found them very close speedwise. That said, you could find an excellent condition 1995 SC3 5spd for around $15k, put $11k in the drivetrain (turbo, clutch and electronics) and have a $26k luxury coupe eat a $50k Z06 on the highway. (I know first hand )
If I had to do it again for around $10k in upgrades (parts only):
Toyomoto turbo kit (60-1 P trim .58 or bigger) with sidemount intercooler $5500 (no fuel controller, no fuel pump, no extra injectors)
Clutchmasters clutch and flywheel $750
Used TT auto diff $500 net (sell old one for $100)
Gauges $250
AEM ECU and sensors (map) $1400
6 550cc injectors $400 net (sell old ones for $200)
2x Walbro fuel pump, fuel lines, fittings etc $500
Apexi AVC-R $400
MSD 6BTM ignition box $300
Toyomoto Midpipe $200
Custom Cat back with Summit mufflers $500
This combination should yield a stock compression turbo engine with around 450rwhp, pull upper 11s - low 12 second ETs depending on tire quality, have ample low end torque, spooling around 1800rpm for easy around town driving. You'd obviously need suspension work for it to hang with a Z06 in handling, but straight line speed should be sufficient to put away the Z06, not to mention older Vipers, any factory Mustang ever built.
