When you have bass ratttling boom, you need to upgrade the alternator to keep the headlights from going dim, every time it hit a bass note. It will even cause the interior lights, radio etc from dimming.. Very bad on electronics

Higher amp alternator just help's keep up with the electricity demand your sound system is making.

Update, I went with a 145Amp alternator for my year model from EBay.

So my 94 sc300 alternator went out. (170k miles) Upgrade is in my interest.
Few questions:
Stock output is 80 amps?
Are there any alts from other cars that would bolt on/fit and have a higher output?
Anyone experience the ebay alternators long term?

EDIT: Car is manual.

The strength of the battery is just as important as having a higher output alt., and will protect the investment your spending on it. Buy a h.d. battery.

SC300 maybe easy to change, but the sc400 is a lot of work. Since I have down graded my stereo, I went down in the size of my alt., alot easier to install, and lighter.

I believe diff years have diff plug shapes too. If your plug is different you MIGHT be able to get the plug that fits and replace yours with it. You'll have to pull the wire all the way up through the space between the suspension and the intake. See the wires and the wires of the plug that fits and confirm the wire colors.

Also you may consider getting the upgraded battery too. I think its more important than the upgraded alt.

Good luck
