5-speed ECU/check engine light issue
#50
Hey guys, not to **** on anyone's parade and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Cali smog requirements (OP is in Cali) could still trip you up here. Even if you eliminate the CE light, don't you still have to pass visual and if you've got a swapped tranny, aren't there all kinds of requirement to have the matching year ecu and smog equip. I'd hate to see anyone go through all that effort and get shot down at their first smog check.

I doubt it. I've went manual conversion with a couple cars before and not once did they check the ECU. As long as there's no CEL then you're golden. State Referee is a whole different deal though.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but i've been MIA for a while. lemme get this straight, by plugging the solenoids from my auto trans to a W58, my CEL won't turn on? Does the year of the W58 matter? And besides my cruise control is there anything else i should be aware of? Cuz if its the case imma start saving for a W58 again!

well i got two of the codes GONE by plugging in two of the variable voltage valves from the old transmission. (this trans only has two!)
now i just need another one.
so ali, the answer would be YES; plugging in the following will get rid of the CEL codes when you remove the auto trans on the 98+:
shift solenoid 1 ~15 ohms (p0753) i just used a resistor here to ground
shift solenoid 2 ~15 ohms (p0758) i just used a resistor here to ground
SLU valve ~5.5 ohms AND ~5 volts (p1755)
SLT valve ~5.5 ohms AND ~5 volts (p1760)
SLN valve ~5.5 ohms AND ~5 volts (p1765)
trans temp sensor ~200 ohms (p0710) i just used a resistor here
boom

I plugged in all the solenoids (SLN, SLU, SLT, and soleniods 1-4) and I get codes p0753, p0758, p0763, and p0768. The codes are for solenoids 1-4 which don't seem to be registering. Any ideas? Do I need to add resistors?

This pertains to any manual trans running off the obd2 stock ecu. No piggy backs will help unless you go stand alone. Mitch Pederson can install and tune an aem ems for 98-00 sc400 as I've already contacted him. I'm going to see how well my car runs first before i decide to go that route as it is pricey. I too have a 98 400. But if we follow cartmills instructions we'll be fine. I just don't know where to put the resistors.
