SC400 single turbo project planning
Hey guys, I'm planning my next project and have been doing a little research for the build. I think I have the basics planned for a moderate build, so would like some feedback if I'm off base anywhere.
Here is what I am thinking so far:
'93 SC400 Auto
- Lower compression via head gaskets
- ARP head studs
- Possibly ARP rod bolts for stock/oem rods
- Upgrade valve springs to raise the rev limit
- BL or Titan built auto with ?? torque converter(Titan?)
- PTE Billet 67
- Tial BOV
- Tial wastegate
- Large FMIC
- Custom intercooler piping
- 3.5" downpipe/exhaust to twin 2.5"
- Custom T4 collector off stock manifolds
- AEM FI/C or AEM EMS(depends on if I need the EMS for the tranny)
- Bosch 044 fuel pump(would do a single Walbro 255, but I think I want more hp then one 255 can handle).
- Fuel injectors?? (haven't looked into sizing yet)
As far as power, what would you guys think this setup is capable of handling? I know what I want, but I'd like to hear what the general consensus is of what this simple motor prep/build will be able to take. Also, if you have any suggestions of other items or issues I should be considering, let me know.

I think the first round of mods may now be a bit different. I was informed that mid 500 wheel hp is doable on the bone stock 1uz. So until I want 650whp +, I'll hold off on touching the motor.
I will most likely add a auto Supra TT LSD to the mix as well.

When a car redlines at 6250 rpm(in stock form), and this "small" turbo is capable of supporting 900whp (+/-), I think the turbo choice will due just fine. Even with the hopes of revving to 7 or 7.5k, the power band will still be relatively small. So the sooner it begins to build boost the better.

This will be a street/strip car. To get everything working properly and set up right, I'll start with mid 500's wheel HP(untouched motor). And then when I get bored of that(probably pretty quickly), I'll move on to doing head gaskets/arp's etc and see how easily(or if) it will make 650whp on that setup.
Just trying to see how simply/cheaply I can make a fast SC400. With a built auto, a good torque converter, and a lsd rear end, some good 1/4 mile times should be pretty easy.
I'm not scared of pushing a platform, I've been down that road before.

Props on boosting the 1uz. Not to many people here in the U.S are brave enough to go this route. Search CL user Stevechumo as he has a well built boosted 1uz making somewhere near 400whp with the auto tranny. His build inspired me to boost my 1uz. What type of engine management do you plan on going with? Keep us posted with the build!

I'll look up some of his threads/posts, thanks for the heads up.
I'm planning on doing a built auto from one of the popular shops, but what do the stock auto tranny's hold for power?
Oh, and this whole project was inspired by a local IS-F TT. The sound of that car got me hooked on the idea of a V8 turbo car.

keep us updated (especially with pics) on the build. I really want to see someone build/boost a VVT-i 1UZ lol because I don't want to be the guinea pig haha
