Default Car makes loud whine in the morning

Hey guys,

I have yet another thing to worry about on my 93 sc400 and I really hope it is nothing serious.

On the first start up of the day ----after the car has been sitting overnight------there is a loud whining sound coming from the back of the engine or under the engine----I think-----

My father thinks the sound is coming more from the top of the engine but it is hard to pinpoint because it only does it once a day and it doesnt last long-----a couple of seconds---than it goes away.

To give you a good idea of what the sound is------it sounds exactly like a household vaccuum cleaner when u turn it on-----a loud whine.

My first thought was that maybe I have a plugged cat or exhaust----but the problem only happens after the car has been sitting for a few hours or overnight---than it never does it again-----you would think a plugged cat would be a constant issue.

Anyways guys please tell me what you think----it seems like it is almost one thing after another with my Lex-------im mad cause I really love the car---I dont want to have to sell it due to constant issues.

I hope this isnt anything serious. It barely has 90 000 miles.

oh and just to give you a better idea of whats going on----the engine doesnt seem to be affected at all---the engine is performing as good as ever ---and even when this whining sound is on it doesnt seem to be causing the engine to struggle or change its performance in any way that is noticable..

Thanks guys

Is it a big job to replace--------can I do it myself without messing around with the timing?

I have been doing research and it seems like this serpentile belt can be a one of many suspects-------has anyone here ever had this sort of issue happen to them?

How did you fix it?

You might as well replace the belt first. It is cheap and takes five minutes.

Do you guys think it can be anything else besides this serpentile belt?

Is it possible that it is the cats? Plugged up maybe?

I find it wierd that this issue only happens after the car has been sitting for a while and it goes away almost instantly.

I hope it is the cats----would give me a good excuse to gut them completely.

Anyways thanks for the replies guys----hope to hear some more.

bro seriously it could be anything
powersteering pump make a vaccuum noise when its low or going to take a poop
crank pulleys are usually loud as **** before they go out mines was only in the morning
the belt is a suspect too...

it could be anything....if i was you i would take off the serpentine belt which takes 30 seconds....all you have to do is pull the tension off from the tensioner....then spin everything by hand and see if you have the sound. you can even turn the car on this way...to see if its the damn crank pulley...dont leave it on to long though as your water pump wont be on when your doing it... no more than 2 minutes...just to be on the safe side....

just realized this is an sc 400 lol....ok so umm yeah alot easier to solve on an 300 but you kinda get the point....id take the belt off on the 1uz and spin everything by hand.....

I dont think its the belt, they usually make a high pitch squealing noise when they go bad. My best guess is the power steering pump since those tend to go bad more often. Check the power steering fluid and make sure its nice and bright pink. Mine just recently took a crap because the previous owner had it flushed a week before I bought it and the retards that did the flush refilled it with something other than ATF fluid.

But a power steering pump when starting up? Do the car start? Or do you have to wait a second then start the car again?

no the car starts up just fine and runs just fine as well------ive been doing research and it seems like scviolence said that this could be any number of things-------I really am getting tired of this car having one issue after another--------it is very frustrating-----

I hope it just goes away to be honest.

bro take the belt off and spin everything by hand int he morning...if nothing makes noise turn it on with the belt off and the only thing that should be the crank pulley...best tihng u can do right now besides posting a video.
