Default Timing Belt - 92 SC400

Hey guys...

Does anyone know if the 92Sc400 has an interfering type Timing belt ?? I have 76500 miles on my SC and it runs great. Should I get the Timing belt changed.

Thanks for the help...

It is non-interfering (at least my 94SC4 is). I have 135K on my original belt but am having it changed in a week. I see from reading the posts here that 90K is quite acceptable for the belt.

90k is a reasonable interval to change the belt, but yes they are non-interference.

Any of the cars in this list with the * next to them are interference designs..... This is the best list I could find.

boredguy, simply put, that means that there is no possibility that if the timing belt snapped, a piston(s) won't come in contact with an open valve as it approaches Top Dead Center. See, without a timing belt, the engine now has no way of knowing when to start opening and closing valves in relationship to the position of the pistons in their respective bores, so when the belt snaps, the reciprocating assembly is still spinning, but the valvetrain is no longer coordinated with it, and with an interference design a piston could wack a valve, and something's gotta give, you'll bend some valves or pop a hole through a couple of pistons, either way it's ugly. To give you an example, the well-known 5.0 litre Ford 302 (it's actually 4.9 litres, but that didn't look as good on the fender) is not only an interference motor, but it is notorious for lack of piston-to-valve clearance, i've warned guys to 'clay' to check for clearance when building these motors, but some don't listen and wind up finding out the hard way. Clear enough?
