I am in the process of customing my K&N Cone Air Filter inside of the stock air box, So it would stick out of the Cut out section of the airbox. I hope it will work. I'll post later on this week and tell how it works.

if yu mean having the back side of the cone filter stick out the back side of the air box, that is entirely bad for your system. it only exposes the part of the cone that is closest to the engine, which is where all the hot air comes from, thus negating the effect of an air box. i had mine like this for a while (since the weapon-r cold air box isnt big enough for 96 or newer sc4 intake), but when i made a foam backing to the air box to completely seal off the intake there was a noticeable increase in performance since i now have no hot air seeping into the cone filter at all.
