Im about to do this in over the weekend. Does anyone know how to tell the two apart? Or does it even matter. I got new oem ones just tyring to figure out where what goes. They look identical!

Thanks bryan767! That helped out but I'm still confused. I replaced my two shifting solenoid's (Toyota oem) so I am no longer having hard shifting problems but my od light still flashes sometimes. What is going on? And also what does the lock solenoid do?

trying to order solenoid I keep getting told that it is a 341E but door plate says 340E, its a 92 sc400 build is 12/91 any ideas how to verify

The Toyota part number is 85420-50020 (Solenoid,Assy).

What a great DIY!!!!!....I am about to do this for a friend and he purchased the Solenoid from Lexus and it only comes as one unit. He has a code 63 indicating to change Solenoid number 2.....if anyone can tell me from the picture in this thread which one is the #2 Solenoid I will greatly appreciate it.

Does anyone know if this guide will work with a 1995 SC300? I assume it is pretty much the same thing even if the trans are slightly different. Needed some guidance before I head to pick n' pull though.

also,what needs to be replaced for code 67 (OD direct clutch speed sensor signal malfunction)?is it a solenoid also?

Had a quick question before I purchase solenoid from Lexus.

My 1995 Lexus SC300 is throwing a code 62, bad solenoid number 1.

The first issue at hand is whether or not I need to replace 1 solenoid or 2 of them. It seems that the A340 for our cars has two different set ups which I will show post diagrams of.

So how do I tell which transmission I have and which solenoid to replace?

Could really use someone with a lot of sc300 AT experience.

First of all, when you get a code 62, which indicates a bad "number 1 shift solenoid," I was under the impression that is only ONE solenoid. Is this the case?

According to one of those diagrams I listed above there are TWO number one shift solenoids..

And then I called a local dealer (Newport Beach Lexus) and gave them my vin so I could get a straighter answer, he sent me the diagram that came up with my car/vin (mfg 1994, model year 1995) on his computers and I attached it to this comment. This diagram shows two number 1 solenoids and one number 2 solenoids. If this is the case and the diagram is true, does that mean a code 62 requires both number one solenoids to be replaced?

My symptoms:
Code 62 - OD off light flashing while driving.
When my transmission is in -
Drive - 3rd gear and OD (4th)only.
2 - 3rd gear only.
L - 1st gear only.

However, according to this website(http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h16.pdf), on page 15, the figure illustrates that when only number 1 solenoid is malfunctioning the transmission should still be able to get to 2nd gear while in L

It even says when both are WORKING, in L drive, you have 1st and 2nd gear... Is this true??

That link then states when both number 1 and number 2 solenoids are malfunctioning you will only have 1st gear in L and only 3rd gear in "2" and only 3rd and OD(4th) in "D"

So what could be the case for my trans ??

This seemed like an easy code to tackle, but the more I research it, the more vague the data becomes.
