^ exactly, if you are willing to do the work you can get a 1jz setup for cheap and slap the head, turbos, etc. on your existing 2jzge block. People also like this cause you get the 1jz stock FFIM which is a plus.
More often people already have a 1jz and want to get some more displacement, and its a nice upgrade.
The 2jzgte head flows better in stock form than the 1j head and has larger cams, but you can always drop in bigger cams and port the head while your putting the 2 motors together anyways.

I felt since I am doing the 1JZ swap I would bump this to the top. I cant comment on the swap completely due to me being in the finishing stages of it. Hate to hear all the haters about the 1JZ. Chose jt after the research and the avalability of the used parts. Every motor can look good if you spend the time on it. I have paid attention to nearly all the details with maintenance and so on. I will let everyone know how I really like the 1jz. So for now the 1jz gets my vote.

If you got a good pair of twins running 17psi with a good tune on a 1jz you should be pretty close to 350whp. Some time back I gave a list of mods that persons trying to obtain that much on the stock units could try, some said this and other said that but that what most persons who have done it successfully have tried and it worked for quite a few.
Twins die single is one way to go but if you on a budget consider a pair of STI turbos (TD04L) and a custom mating plate to stock manifold, custom down pipe and intake along with oil line and there you have a 1jz with more reliable turbos for cheap. That is for the none vvti, for the vvti custom back plate to mate t3 turbo to stock manifold. HX35/HX40 can be had for cheap and off you go, without a proper tune well any car will suck at spool and power so bear that in mind.
Nothing wrong if you have a ge and decide to work with it, the fact is once you go NA-T you no longer stock, why would you want to compare it with a stock gte?

NA-T vs Engine swap
I have a 93 sc300 and im wanting to get it boosted. ive read on here and online about turbo kits for the NA sc (which i have). Then ive been looking at engine swaps like 2jzgte or 1jz.. Obvisouly the engine swap will be more then the turbo kit but from my point of view more reliable. My car also has 179xxx miles on it. So if i got the kit would i have to replace all the stock internals or not? Any ideas or feedback would be awesome!! Also if anyone has any links for turbo kits (besides ebay) or motors that would help a lot!!

How about a 1UZ + supercharger/ single turbo + manual swap. If you have a manual ge already, then you save money on transmission too.
1. Get a good 1UZ for like $500 or already have one in your car
2. Buy supercharger or build turbo kit ~ $1500 in parts
3. Manual swap
4. ???
5. Profit!

no idea how many of these threads i read through, but even tho im looking to do a 2jz. i cant help but think of getting a 1jz due to cost.
price of the install and wiring is nearly double and for the price of a 2jzgte you can get a 1jz and a R154 so things seem to add up fast $$$$.

im looking at a 500hp build and from what ive gathered the 1jz is good for it, anything more then that id probably go 2jz in a heart beat just to have more displacement to spool those bigger turbos.
