Default power steering

power steering was leaking fluid alot so i decided to change out the hoses and o ring on bottom of resorvoir**spell check** after all that i poured in atf dex fluid
i think it was about a lil over 1/2 a quart
but a week or so before i change the hoses and o ring my brother said he been topping it with regular power steering fluid into the resorvoir**spell check** every other day

so my question is it ok to just leave it like is or do i have to drain out all the fluid once more and put atf dex fluid?

and if i have to drain out all the fluid where do i drain it from? do i have to take out the bottom power steering hose/line?

thanks!
