edit. the 1uz has a bore of 87.5mm and stroke of 82.5mm, the 2uz a bore of 94mm and 84mm. Correct me if I am wrong but does that not mean you would have to sleeve the 2UZ block deboring it 82.5mm to fit with the 1uz head? The net gain would be only a 1.5mm increase in stroke and an iron block.

What year????

-------------------------

So I finally got around to putting some air in the #8 cyl today.

Lots of air (a bit of noticable pressure actually) coming out of the crankcase. Sounded like there may have been some in the intake too but not 100% sure. Nothing from the exhaust.

I put air in #1 just to be sure it wasn't normal. Was some air moving but not near as much.

So I guess that either the rings are gone or possible leaking into the crankcase through the head gasket.

Haven't decided what I'm going to do about it yet.

As long as spacing on the bore centerlines, and head bolt pattern is the same between engines, I don't see what the problem would be. Engines are bored all the time. Also, bigger bore means unshrouded valves as an added bonus.

That is one expensive *** shortblock though!

You are a different breed my friend. One of few trying to squeeze good power from a 1UZ. Sorry your engine gave up the ghost, but it gave you some damn fine numbers along the way I hate to even say it, but have you considered an LSX swap? At least it would be keeping to the aluminum V8 roots...

and adding GM roots

You would be surprised on how many people are making good power from 1uz's.... maybe not in the SC crowd since most here are like "JZ JZ JZ JZ JZ" but elsewhere... there are plenty of other vehicles with a 1uz playing with power (swapped).

Ya, if I wanted a car with an LS motor I'd buy a car that came with one....

I love the uz motors too much and I'm just a Toyota guy I guess...

I hear what you guys are saying. I don't blame you for wanting to try for power with the underdog. Heck, Honda guys do it all the time. LSX swaps ARE kinda cheating since it is so easy to make power with one.

Come on man let's leave the JZ out of this for once please. Back to the engines at hand. The 2UZ is a truck engine and has worse cams that the 1UZ. Correct me if I am wrong, but the power peaks at 4800RPM stock. That's no fun. Also, the rods are tiny!

To the OP, I think you should revert to an early thick rodded 1UZ if you aren't going for an all out build. The tune won't be that different so you won't need to change much. You will be able to run more boost with one without worrying about those baby rods you have now. Just be careful with the sparkv advance this time around! Glad you are sticking with a UZ though. Good luck.

You just use the 4.7 lower end with 1uz heads so it's just plug and play^^

Yea I've heard of that. I was actually just referring to him saying to use the entire 2UZ (head and all) which would not be so beneficial.
